I was roaming the streets of Facebook when I came across Angaza Salon’s page. What drew me in is the pictures of the long juicy flexi rod set created on a customer. My curiosity was peaked as I continued to explore the page and further down I saw more and more juicy, bouncy curls created on natural hair, no extensions. Without hesitation,I made an appointment and went on down. I was not disappointed.
Grace Wakesho’s salon in the heart of Nairobi is the one thing we never knew we needed. Her depth of knowledge and level of creativity is a breath of fresh air. She’s giving women confidence one hairstyle at a time. All this without deeply denting your coffers. Did I mention she was the winner of a hair styling competition held by Darling Kenya a few years back? So you are in the best hands.
Below are photos of her work. All photos courtesy of her Facebook page.
If you have natural hair, you probably don’t trust hairdressers with your hair. Am I right? Mostly because many are untrained properly handling natural hair or have a horrid attitude towards it. Not to mention they charge an arm and a leg to straighten hair because they claim it’s more work. My experience in the hands of Grace left me lost for words. Imagine going to a salon where they actually detangle before they wash your hair. I think I’ve just been going to whack salons all my life. But I’m now a loyal customer! Grace can take my money! Her affordable pricing is the icing on the cake. I did not need to sell my kidney to look good.
Grace patiently sprayed leave-in conditioner and combed out my hair using a fine-toothed comb then proceeded to wash using a high quality shampoo and conditioner. Not the cheap drying stuff. As she was combing, I felt zero pain. Usually, when other stylists comb my hair I feel like I need a painkiller and a good sob afterwards. I also got a relaxing scalp massage like I’ve never gotten in my life. Scalp massage! Treatment, further detangling and blow-dry was done and voila! Fresh, knot-free hair ready for braiding! I had a weave sewed in.
Let’s just say I’m never going to another salon again. For relaxed and natural hair, weaving, crochet, loc styling, brows and a host of other things. If you’d like to visit Angaza Salon, it’s at Nacico Chambers, 5th Floor opposite Imenti House. Her phone number is 0723 418888. To visit her page click here.
