This Is How Much Hair You Need For Different Styles

As you know, hair extensions are packaged differently. From braids to weaves and ponytail extensions. A couple of factors come into play when deciding the number of packs you need for a hairstyle. But the 3 most important factors are the nature of the style, nature of the hair and the volume of your hair. Packs also vary from brand to brand.Below is the only guide you need to help you buy the right amount of hair for your next salon visit:

2. Jumbo/Medium Cornrows

If you probably want jumbo or medium sized cornrows, 2 to 3 packs of braids will be just fine depending on hair thickness and length you want your cornrows to be. The longer the cornrows, the more packs you will need. For instance if you want very long, waist-length cornrows, you will need 4 to 5 packs of Darling Braids.

3. Small Cornrows

Small cornrows will require 5 to 6 packs of braids, also depending on the thickness of your hair. Thicker hair may need 7 packs just to be on the safe side. The nature of the cornrow hairstyles will also dictate how much hair you need because some styles are more complicated than others.

BOX BRAIDS/TWISTS

1. Long (Medium or Jumbo)

We’re talking Beyonce in her ‘’Formation’’ video, kind of long. Long braids need more hair because obviously of how long they will be. The longer they are, the more packs you will need. If you have thick hair, 6 to 8 will do. If you have less voluminous hair, 3 to 5 is enough.

2. Medium/Short Length (Medium or Jumbo)

Medium length braids will require you to purchase about 4 to 5 if you have thick hair and 3 to 4 packs if you have slightly less thick hair.

Micro braids

Micro braids vary from small to extremely small in size. Since there will be so many individual braids on your head, you will need about 8 to 10 packs.

CROCHET BRAIDS

The amount of hair needed for crochet braids is highly dependent on the nature of the braid and the desired hairstyle. In general, if you want to achieve moderate volume, 5 packs of crochet braids hair is adequate. If you desire more volume, you will need 6 to 7. For instance, faux locs, havana twists, box braids and mambo braids, 4 packs are enough. But for more kinky and curly hairstyles, you may need about 6 if you want a lot more volume.

WEAVES

Different types of hair will require different amount of weave. Straight synthetic weaves will require less packs than curly ones. So for straight weave you will need just 2 packs while you will need 3 to 4 packs for their curlier counterparts for a fuller look.

When it comes to human hair, which is sold in grams, your budget plays a huge role. Most of the time you will need 3 bundles for straight weaves and about 3 to 4 packs for curly or wavy hair. However, you do not have to limit yourself to these numbers. You can always get more packs if you want full, over the top hair.

Hope this helps whenever you’re shopping for your next hairstyle!
