Type 4B naturalistas, we know you’d like to tame your Z-shaped strands and give it more curl-definition. And when you can get longer and stronger hair by merely switching up your wash routine, why would you not! So, let’s get to some stretching exercises!
Since the texture of 4B hair tends to be extra dry, Pre-Poo is an absolute must! Adding a layer of oil or conditioner to the hair and allowing it to sit for at least 30 minutes before a shampoo will protect your hair. Follow this up with a good mist like Dr. Miracle’s Scalp Care Detoxifying Pre-Shampoo Mist.
New to the term? Co-washing means washing your hair first with a conditioner followed by shampoo to gently wash away any build up and retain maximum moisture. Since this hair type is dry, it’s best to co-wash it. A good sulphate-free shampoo like ProfectiV Mega Growth Stimulating Shampoo is your ally when it comes to nourishing your hair and making it stronger.
One golden rule to swear by, is to condition daily and apply leave-in products for apt moisture! 4B hair requires more of a moisturizing conditioner than a protein one since the hair is naturally dry and struggles to retain moisture. Use protein conditioners only when you face excessive breakage. Deep conditioning with steam (since it opens hair cuticles) should be done once a week to repair any damage.
Type 4B hair is more tightly coiled and hence you need to detangle it using only your fingers. A large toothed comb will only do more damage than good! Spritz on some water coupled with MegaGrowth Deep Conditioner for intense moisturising and detangle before and after shampooing your hair.
Have you been noticing excessive dry ends of late? Suffering from hair breakage and hair fall? Yes, there is definitely a strong connection between ‘em two. Ends require more moisture and conditioning. So on wash days, apply sealant products enriched with ingredients like Shea butter or olive oil on damp hair. We swear by African Pride Shea Miracle Moisture Intense Buttery Creme Hair Moisturizer for an intense infusion of Shea butter moisture and high definition curls.
Caring for your hair is critical if you want longer and stronger hair. A major part of this depends upon the hairstyles you go in for. We recommend opting for maintenance-friendly styles like a braid-out or any wash and go style. Protective styles like braids; and there are plenty of variations to choose from; are also a great option to weave in, right after your hair wash.
