Natural Hair For The Win!
Hair struggles come as a part and parcel of being a woman of African roots. However, going natural is a choice that many women are making and that’s what got the #NaturalHairMovement to rise and create an upsurge.
Going natural is a lot of things- it is about making a style statement but more so about making a huge political statement. Black hair has remained a battlefield for many years. Be it a job interview or a first date – we’ve all received subtle suggestions to relax hair for crucial and special moments.
The afro has been almost synonymous with natural hair. It has been perceived as a symbol of black pride. There’s a shift towards diversity of beauty and has provided us black women to truly accept and express our natural roots, quite literally.
The roots of this movement, can be traced back to the 60’s when wearing towering afros and exaggerated dreads. BIG and BUSHY was the motto to live by.
In the 80’s and 90’s relaxation was the norm and was considered beautiful and ‘in vogue’.
In 2009, a documentary called “Good Hair” released which instilled women with confidence and pride to wear their hair natural. Since then, the natural hair movement has never looked back and has seen more and more supporters.
We love natural hair for the simple reason that it shows that you’re comfortable in your own skin. Of course, it requires a lot of care and maintenance.
With so many products to choose from today, natural hair care is so much easier. We have a variety of recommendations, spoon feeding every hair type, here on the Black Hair Hub.
Straight hair, curly hair, long hair, short hair – your hair is your choice. The long and short of it is that you should wear your hair with pride and nothing else! Go on, Indulge!
