You know when you think you’re doing something but you’re not actually doing it? Like when you put your phone to charge only to find that it wasn’t charging, 2 hours later. Thanks universe! Well, it’s the same with moisturizing hair. Sometimes you may think that you’re moisturizing your mane but that’s not the case. So if you’re doing the below, you are actually not moisturizing your hair. But that’s why we’re here to help! Consider us your fairy godmother:
For a moisturizer to be a moisturizer, the first ingredient is usually Water. If your aim is to moisturize your hair, you cannot use oil to do that. For instance, your favourite oil like avocado oil or castor oil…You name it. Does not contain water. We all know oil and water do not mix. So it follows that you cannot use oil to moisturize. At all. You need to use a moisturizer like a leave-in conditioner or hair butter.
As stated above, a moisturizer must contain water as the first or second ingredient. What many people usually do is to apply a hair food/grease/pomade and hope that this will moisturize the hair. Hate to break it to you. These are not moisturizing your hair.
What is a rinse-out conditioner? Also called detangling conditioner/detangler, this is usually used after washing hair. You apply this then detangle to remove knots before styling. You then rinse out the conditioner. You must follow up with a leave-in conditioner or deep conditioner to ensure hydration that stays. Merely using rinse-out conditioner is not adequate.
So you’ve used a moisturizer, deep conditioner or leave-in. You should not stop at this point. You need to follow up with an oil like TCB Argan Oil, TCB pomade or hair food like the TCB Nourishing Hair Food. The use of an oil or pomade seals in moisture so that your hair does not dry out. Whether you’ll be wearing your hair open or in a protective style, sealing moisture is paramount!
