Hair Maintenance

Person X : ‘’Is that your hair?’’
Me: ‘’Yeah,I bought it so it’s mine.’’
Much like your dog named Mandy, extensions need love and affection. By love and affection I mean proper care. This is the only way to ensure your wigs and weaves last and last and last…and last. Life doesn’t come with a manual. That’s why you have this article to help you keep your hair looking fabulous:
You should not wear a wig or weave and call it a day. Try to deep condition and moisturize weekly or every other day. This way your hair feels soft and looks fresh.
When combing, use the best brush for the hair you’re wearing. Don’t use a fine toothed comb on a super curly weave or a wide-toothed comb on a straight wig. For curlier hair, avoid combs if you want to maintain the curls. Simply use your fingers to fluff and go.Straight and wavy extensions require a fine toothed comb.
When using heat tools like flat irons and hair curlers, use heat protectant. I repeat, heat protectant! This guarantees longevity of your unit. You don’t want to smell your hard-earned money in the air as your hair burns, do you? Might as well have thrown the money you spent on the weave, in a bonfire.
Not only does a silk scarf/pillow case make you feel like sleeping beauty. It also helps protect your wigs/weaves from friction and drying out caused by normal cotton pillows. Simply braid in two sections before bed. Then wear a silk scarf or sleep on a silk pillow.
Weaves and wigs do not require a lot of product. The less, the better. Use light oils and serums to moisturize and revive your hair. I implore you to avoid heavy products meant for afro hair. These will weigh down the hair and make it look tacky.
Which other tips do you use to keep your hair extensions looking in tip top shape?
