Wearing your hair is amazing. So is wearing extensions, especially if you want to give your hair a break or want some extra umph. However, human hair weaves and wigs are quite expensive! You may have to sell a limb or an organ on the blackk market to buy some of them…Just kidding. But you get the drift? Human hair starts at $100 and others go north of $5000. But we’ll talk about Nicki Minaj’s human hair wigs later. With a lot of disguised fakes in the market, it’s paramount to be able to differentiate so that you are not ripped off when buying human hair extensions. Imagine spending $1000 only for your hair to start tangling and matting? There will be hell to pay, that’s what. Here are some things you can do when buying human hair:
In the words of George Orwell ‘’All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others’’ Damn right George. Human hair extensions are all good, but they have varying degrees of quality. It goes a little something like this: 5A, 6A, 7A, 8A, 9A and 10A. The highest quality currently being 10A. Also, ask the seller if the hair is virgin, meaning it has not been chemically manipulated. Also, is the hair 100% human hair?Because some sellers mix their hair with synthetic hair. It all depends on the quality of hair you want which determines the price you will pay.
When buying the hair in person, ask them to use a flat iron on a small section of the hair you intend to buy. If the hair burns up, smells like smoke and rubber, chances are that the hair is not fully human. It will also appear melted, rough and ball-like. Real human hair will maintain its original state.
If you know someone close to you who has amazing human hair, ask them to refer you to their seller. This is often the best way to buy human hair. Read reviews, talk to people and think long and hard before you spend your hard-earned money.
Excessive shedding is an indicator of fake human hair. Carry a hair brush with you when going to buy human hair. Brush the hair and observe the shedding. If it’s curly hair, you can run your fingers through it thoroughly. Normal shedding will occur with human hair. However, if shedding is excessive, the hair may not be genuine good quality. Ditch it and run the other way!
One sure-fire indicator of real and fake human hair. Legitimate human hair is bound to be really expensive. The converse is true. It is however not automatic. Be careful darling. Sometimes even salt looks like sugar. Some unscrupulous dealers mix human hair with some synthetic and sell it at a premium.
Hopefully, the steps above will help you recognize the real from the fake. What are your experiences with buying human hair?
