This year has gone so fast. It was January 5 seconds ago. What can I say? Hair today, gone tomorrow. The Christmas holidays are upon us once again. I stumbled across Naomi Matinde on the corridors of YouTube. She’s a makeup artist and hairstylist that does exceptionally easy hairstyles without breaking the bank. Here are a few of her hairstyles you can use as inspo for the holidays:
Short hair? No problem. Naomi admits to having short hair so she conjured up a faux fro bun using 4 simple tools: A wig cap, bobby pins, an elastic band and ‘’Ceres’’ crochet braids. She brushed up her hair and used gel for a sleek ponytail. Then she added the newly created bun as a boost. This head-turning look is easy to try and not to mention affordable! Get crocheting today. Watch the complete tutorial here.
On freshly washed hair, Naomi sections the front of her hair into a triangle and uses a rubber band to fuse a braid to her hair. She does the same to the rest of her hair except the back. She then applies edge control to her edges and places a scarf over it to ensure the edges lay completely flat. She then adds a curly ponytail extension and gold accessories to the mix and voila! A look worthy of the festive season. Watch the tutorial here.
In this episode of Naomi does hair, she starts by dividing her hair into 2 sections. The front section being smaller than the back section. She then proceeds to further divide the back section into many sub-sections and braids them. She sections the front part into smaller portions as well and ties black rubber bands to each small section to create small puffs. She then applies water and gel on each of these small puffs and lays them down with a toothbrush. She then takes a braid and a rubber band and attaches the braid to each puff braids it then wraps the braid around the small puff to create a wonderful Bantu Knot. She then takes a curly wig and secures it on the back of her head where she’d braided. The outcome is a hybrid of Bantu Knots and Afro wig! Watch the full tutorial here.
