Black Is Beautiful
The very first World Afro Day Awards were celebrated on the15th of September 2018. It celebrated everything that comes with being black and beautiful – inside out! It also put the spotlight on our favourite topic…. Yes, you guess it right – hair and as great hair was being lauded, celebrity Afro excellence in all areas of society got it’s due too. Afro hair, culture and pride were for the world to see! Apart from the leading ladies at the event of course, take a look at what stopped us in our tracks.

By a recent study conducted, only 37% of women feel comfortable wearing an afro to a professional event. The World Afro Day’s motto was to tackle this with some strong messaging ‘Change the Facts, Not the ‘Fro’. Let’s wear our hair with pride, girl!

Dee-Ann Kentish Rogers was a special guest at the awards. A true natural hair queen that she is, rockin’ dreads when she was crowned Miss Universe Great Britain. We have real respect for this diva. If you want dreads just like hers, try Darling Soft Dred Extensions that are super easy to use and comes pre-styled.

Spotted Afua Hirsch at the event as well. This journalist and bestselling author gives us MAJOR hair goals. She’s known for her off-beat fashion choices and rockin’ that natural hair. If you’re a naturalista taking inspo from her, make sure you moisturize your thirsty roots. Nothing that a good DC with ProfectiV Mega Growth Anti Breakage Deep Conditioner can’t achieve. We sure can vouch!
Up next was Charlotte Mensa imparting her knowledge on natural hair. As a multi-award winning Afro hairstylist, she comes armed with major expertise in natural hair. Right from tribal hair threading and braiding, she’s nailed it all! You go, girl!
