First and foremost, we’ll say it straight up, Afropunk is undoubtedly an attitude. The Afropunk festival returned to Paris and damn! The outfits, music and of course the hair screamed only of empowerment and self-expression. We’re feeling all pumped up with pride and excitement as the fest set some major hair goals. It was all about celebrating African pride, freeing your mind, feeling some soul music, expressing your originality and making a style statement. So girl, let’s have a look at the best hairstyles that checked all our boxes to celebrate the glorious African culture and individuality.

Dreadlocks, locks, locs, dreads – whatever you wanna call ‘em, we think they are defnitely one of the coolest hairstyles to ever exist! We are ‘locing’ this look, complete with statement beads. And if that wasn’t enough, the necklace is that added dash of drama too. We’ve recreated this look with Darling Rough Dred Hair Extensions and don’t think we ever want to take them off! Try ‘em if you’re up for it.

Twists it seems were the most popular hairdo to sport this year at the fest. We are in absolute awe of these jumbo crochet twists complete with the half space buns. The metal beads add an edge and look super RAD! And about platinum, we’ll say no further. So make your hair stand out. The world is your stage!

LIBERTY! This TWA screams freedom. Perfect for everyone on #TeamNatural, nothing is more liberating than finally going for the big chop. Spice up the cropped look by adding a pop of colour to it. Go for the pantone colour of the year – Purple – as seen here or choose from unconventional colours such as reds and striking blues. We’ve tried creating this look with a yummy cherry red using Inecto Cherry Red Permanent Hair Colour Crème and the verdict is Fabulous!

Go GAGA over these Ghana braids. They are stylish, oh-so-detailed and ooze AFROPUNK from all sides! Ghana braids are perfect for giving hair breakage a break. This protective hairstyle maintains hair length and also make sure your hair grows faster. The new definition of ‘cool’ in the natural hair world, you should definitely try these out !
