Actresses like Viola Davis are few and far in between. Her unparalleled screen presence and fervour will have you falling in love, hating her and wanting to throw the remote at the TV…All at the same time. Perhaps her most famous role is that of Annalise Keating, in the smash hit Series ‘’How To Get Away With Murder’’ . Therein she plays a no-nonsense criminal lawyer cum Law professor whose whirlwind of a life seems to rattle her and everyone around her. In real life, Viola wears natural hair unapologetically. Her journey to her current sense of self-awareness and confidence has been years in the making. To Viola, wearing natural hair is as a result of shedding her insecurities and coming into herself as a black woman and learning to love herself just the way she is.

According to InStyle Magazine:
‘’For the January 2015 Cover for Instyle Magazine,Viola was inspired by the 1970s and after just a few takes she said she wanted her hair combed out into an afro,” says Davis’s longtime stylist Jamika Wilson. “I just played with her natural texture and it let all of her beauty shine through.” To craft her chic crop, Wilson whipped up a custom product cocktail that moisturized the star’s curls and gave them some definition. “I mixed As I Am Curling Jelly with a little bit of natural shea butter,” says Wilson. “And then I used it to randomly twist sections of her hair.”
