Lately, we’ve been reminiscing the 90’s. Flashback to when Brandy Norwood’s hairstyles and fashion left a mark in our hearts and oh how they still yearn for those iconic micro braids that she rocked during her Moesha days.
She’s on to have experimented with cuts, colour, braids and weaves. You name it, she’s tried it. Apart from being a teen heartthrob and having a successful music career, she’s been our hairstyle pin up ever since. Join us and take a visual tour of Braidy….oops Brandy Norwood’s hair evolution over the years.
Stick to basics? Nah, that was never her game when it came to her braids. She chose to play around with colour, length and style. If one day she sported braided ponytails, the next day she’d be spotted wearing her hair in braided space buns. Her braided hairdo was so famous that Mattel went on to launch a Barbie with micro braids, celebrating the unique look. So whether to plan to channel Barbie or Brandy, these braids are a win-win! But girls, remember to always, always moisturize to nourish and strengthen your hair prior to styling. You could use Mega Growth Break Free Daily Leave-In Strengthener, a great product for healthy hair, and happy braids!
What’s better than box braids, you ask? Box-braided space buns, baby! These space buns are so versatile, they’re perfect for date night, a day out with friends or even as a workout hairstyle to keep your hair off your face. Now if you’ve been following Brandy, you’ll see that she’s been sporting these since her mid-teens. Style sure started early! To recreate this look, all you’ll need to do is make regular box braids and then coil your hair on both sides to make the buns. Hold in place with elastic bands and secure with bobby pins. We swear by Motions Style and Create Versatile Foam Styling Lotion for all our styling that ranges from installing braids to weaves.
Switching protective styles from twists and braids to an afro – each style quite distinctive to go with her awesome personality. In this hairstyle, we see her rocking exaggerated jumbo twists. But there’s nothing as ‘way too exaggerated’ in her hair glossary and we love how she’s always ready to experiment! Protective hairstyles like this one, shield your hair from dust, heat and pollution and also stretch your hair promoting hair growth. But to be able to switch between styles as often as you like, be sure you’re armed with the right hair arsenal of hair products that are safe for your scalp and hair type and texture. Count on us to link you to the brands we’ve known, tried, tested and loved!
More recently, we’ve seen Brandy sport her natural ‘fro and her followers can’t seem to get enough.
Here, she’s rocking a natural afro that’s been parted to the side. With so many afro hairstyles to choose from, this full voluminous afro is a favourite as it yells femininity with its soft yet well-defined curls. We absolutely LOVE!
