Controversies aside, it’s our turn to stop in awe at the beautiful Vatican and Catholic-inspired artistic elements that shone at the year’s most iconic style exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Forgive us, father, for we have sinned to lust for the wearable art that sashayed, one better than the other at the Met Gala 2018. Interpreted by many, understood by some, the theme zeroed in this year was ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’. It sure brought out a whole lot of divine creativity from our favourite celebrity icons and designers. Studded crucifixes, extravagant headdresses and elaborate ensembles jewelled from the bottom to the top, here’s our pick of celebrities who went by the book and all out giving us the heavenly inspiration.
The highest authority, in fashion, of course, this superstar adorned a Papal inspired custom-made dress by John Galliano from Maison Margiela. Though still unsure of how this went down with the Catholic audiences and Papal authorities, this elaborate ensemble was nothing short of exquisite. Sheathed with crystals all over and completed with a mitre hat at the top it definitely involved some skilled craftsmanship to whip up this astoundingly intricate, embellished piece. By the look of it, it sure must be heavy, but by far wins the most epic look of the night.
In total contrast to the reigning RiRi, Lena Waithe’s Rainbow Pride-Flag cape painted a symbolic image on the stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In her attempt at creating a room of acceptance for the LGBTQI community which has always been excluded from Catholic associations, Lena Waithe sure made a powerful statement repping the community in this Carolina Herera divine number. Braided and knotted in a Mohawk pattern, she added a streak of electric blue to her hairstyle. Individuality game on point, here is one rainbow superhero, we think the world needs!
Known for flaunting her ‘fro at every opportunity she gets, Solange Knowles sure stunned us by taking the reverse route this time. Crowdsourcing her costume pick with her fans on Twitter hours before the big night, Solange went for the Du-rag and Halo Comb teamed with a latex black sculpted strapless dress. Her way of telling an unorthodox story through the outfit was commendable.
Personalities from the entertainment industry don’t shy away from making bold moves when it comes to their hair. Take a look at this line up of Celebrities Who Prove That The Big Chop Is In Fashion.
