The natural hair movement has taken centre stage over the last few years. With the rise and rise of social media and hair care videos, scores of women dived in with both feet. For many, it was spiritual and for some it was more superficial. Watching YouTube recently, you find a number of bloggers who went natural and now they’re going back to relaxed hair. Let’s explore some of their reasons:
If you have natural hair, you know it can be taxing physically and emotionally. Wash day means that you set aside one whole literal day to wash and style your hair. Some YouTubers and bloggers are going back to relaxed hair because they don’t have the time nor energy to do all that pertains to natural hair maintenance. Some are career women and some just couldn’t be bothered anymore! Some are just over it. Before you give up, here’s how to overcome natural hair fatigue.
Disillusionment is real when it comes to natural hair. Some YouTubers and Instagrammers have expressed their disappointment about how they look in natural hair. They thought that they would look a certain way but they don’t. They were hoping that their hair would be loose,3B curls or that their hair would look like Tracie Ellis Ross. Instead they have very different, type 4 curls which is stressing them out. This has led many women to go back to relaxed hair. You do you booboo! Do what makes you happy.
Natural hair products can definitely cost you an arm, a leg and your whole existence, especially if you want the high-quality stuff. When shopping at the grocery store, half the bill might be for hair products. Some naturals have gone back to relaxed hair because products for relaxed hair usually cost a bit less, plus you don’t need as many products for relaxed hair. And we don’t blame these ladies for going back to relaxed hair! If you’re relaxing your hair again, try the Mega Growth range of products. They are raved about in the community.
Some naturalists have expressed that their going back to relaxed hair is just for personal reasons that they don’t feel obliged to explain to anyone. These ladies do not owe anyone any apologies and that’s that!
Were you a natural who has gone back to relaxed hair? What were your reasons?
