If your feed is flooded, just like ours, with some of your favourite celebrities dressed in outrageously extravagant ensembles, dramatic demeanour and crazy hair and make up (as if that wasn’t enough!), you’ve been hit by 2019’s leg of the MET Gala. With the theme this year being Camp: Notes on Fashion, here’s lining up some of the campiest of camp looks from this spectacular, star studded affair.
In love with Lupita… yet again for bringing in the rainbow on the runway ….and through ruffles! Bravo Atelier Versace, you’ve out done yourself. And wowza to that hair – Afro all the way baby! Don’t miss the hand painted Gold combs and frou-frou fan. That’s Lupita, for us. Nothing was quite eye-catching as her ensemble. We’re calling this our camp classic. Get this with Darling’s Comb Out Fluffy Kinky Crochet (Kenya) or the Darling Afro Kinky Weave (Nigeria).
Very few can do camp whilst staying chic through it all and Janelle nails it for us at that! Stylish and surreal is how we describe her look at the MET Gala this year. We hear Alexandra Mandelkorn went through 15 sketches before zeroing in on Janelle’s final look. While the blinking eye is enough to hold anyone’s gaze, it’s hard to ignore the incredible hat sculpture. Knowing Janelle, we’re certain the hair under there, is on point too!
Filmmaker Ava DuVernay sashays in her custom Prada silk green dress with a giant pink flower on it. We are absolute fans of her cornrowed Faux locks and would love to try this style sometime soon using Darling’s Rasta Trend Crochet. Also, who else is drooling with us on the emerald eyeshadow on the inner corners of her eye?! Talk about attention to detail.
And making pink carpet history yet again is none other than Zendaya and this time in her Cinderella inspired light-up princess gown, custom-made by Tommy Hilfiger. Make up was dewy and subtle with frosty blue and pink accents. Her hair was worn swept back into Ella’s iconic chignon and even coloured blonde in keeping with the character with a blue silk head band to finish off the look. Enchanted indeed by the true belle of the ball!
Crystal eye decals are having their moment, we see! Loving Regina Hall’s bumble-bee inspired Gold Gucci number making its way at the MET. Red ombre hair worn straight and parted down the middle for the win here, guys!
Go big, Go bold or Go home! That’s the message we’re getting from Ciara’s MET Gala look. Hands down, the most marvellous mane at the event. No wonder she took home the award for the best hair look of the night. Going green with envy, are we? Well, hold on, you too can get your very own over-the-top, ultra-voluminous Afro with Darling’s Natural Twist (Nigeria) or the Comb Out Fluffy Kinky Crochet (Kenya).
Sure you’ve heard about the python on the prowl at this year’s MET! Here’s a closer look of how our favourite Solange made her entrance. A snakeskin chic romper and over the knee boots courtesy Salvatore Ferragamo. For her simple hairstyle, look to recreating it using the Darling Natural Yaki Plus Weave (Kenya).
The tennis star stunned us with her stand-out gown with pink and yellow butterfly and leaf motifs intricately stitched on. She chose to go with old school, Hollywood inspired, simple yet chic hair; crimped and tied back into a bun. What really got heads turning though was how she got a bit of her sport on to the carpet flaunting comfy kicks in matching neon yellow.
Acting kinda campy Ms. Jenner? Full-on and fierce in feathers, the Jenner sisters rocked the MET carpet in their show-girl inspired designs by Donatella Versace. While both the siblings had us wowed, we just CANNOT stop crushing on Kylie’s purple straight chic locks. Wondering if Darling can help us nail this look with their Bone Straight Crochet Braid from Darling Nigeria.
