Coordinating a real-life award show is challenging. Imagine coordinating an online award show, what with the possibility of Wi-Fi issues, lag and other things that may go wrong. But BET pulled off this feat on Sunday, 29th June 2020.
The BET awards are held every year to recognise and award entertainers and personalities within the black community. This year it was different thanks to COVID-19 which necessitated the award show to be held virtually. These are truly different times we live in. Welcome to the new normal! Everything happened online: Performances, announcements and addresses…Everything! We’re here to break down our fave hairstyles of the night:
Amanda Seales was the hostess and she looked gorgeous in her long blonde twists which she changed at different parts of the show. From a twisted bun to free-flowing braids and an afro at some point, the lady looked stunning!
Equal parts beautiful and equal parts talented. The sister duo belted out tunes in their natural dreads flowing down to their back, complemented by eye-catching outfits. Hair: did, Makeup: Flawless, Outfit: on point, Still: Amazing! It’s hard not to love these girls.
Alicia brought her A-Game to the online masses with her performance of a soulful ballad while working her magic on the grand piano. She made you feel the weight of her words, paying tribute to George Floyd, a victim of police brutality. This time in half slicked-down hair and half braided hair. We approve, Alicia. We approve!
Tracie Ellis Ross styled herself for this year’s virtual BET awards. She called her ‘’baby hairs’’ her ‘’grown woman hairs’’ in an Instagram caption that read:
Isn’t she a beauty?
Michelle Obama graced our screens wearing shoulder-length curly hair, looking elegant and not looking a day over 50! She radiated beauty that only she can and spoke in the way only she can. You will always be our first lady Michelle!
Hearing Jennifer Hudson sing online, you would think you were there in person listening to her. The super talented songstress is known for her vocal range and during the BET awards, she proved that she is a musical maestro. She did all this in what looked like dreads styled into an intricate pattern. Her show was so well produced.
