Why exactly would you want to add any product to your shampoo? Because they help shampoo work a bit better. Here are some ingredients you can add to boost your shampoo:
As you shampoo, add one cup of rosewater to your hair and scalp. This soothes a dry irritated scalp caused by fungal infections,it increases shine, balances hair pH and helps in hair growth as it has stimulating properties. It naturally conditions and moisturizers because it is rich in flavonoids and vitamins A, B3, C, D, and E. The sugars in the rose petals add to the rose water’s calming effects. The beauty is that you can make rosewater at home. Just take one cup of roses and 2 cups of cold water. Ensure the petals are free of pesticides and insects! Boil two cups of water then pour water over your rose petals. Cover and let steep for 30 minutes then strain and store in your favourite jar.
We wrote a wonderful article about why you should use honey in your hair here. Our enduring love affair with honey goes way back. We love it because it is an emollient, it conditions the hair and scalp as well as contains enzymes, vitamins, minerals, antiseptic and antibiotic properties which helps combat bacteria. Add it to your shampoo as you wash your hair and experience a world of benefits!
Essential oils are great for 3 things: Stimulating hair growth, fighting dandruff using its antimicrobial and antibacterial properties as well as slows graying. Mix 2 drops of an essential oil like peppermint oil or lavender oil with any carrier you wish. Massage it into your scalp, and leave on for 5 minutes before washing out thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner.
You will find that many shampoos tend to strip the hair of its natural oils. Adding an oil as you wash your hair, will help prevent crippling dryness. You can use any oil you desire: Coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil or better yet, Jojoba oil from TCB. This oil is lightweight and full of emollients that are guaranteed to protect your hair from harsh shampoo.
When life gives you lemons, put it in your hair! If you lack a clarifying shampoo, you can use lemon to help remove oil and dirt build-up. Take 1 lemon and squeeze it into 1 cup of water. You can use this lemon juice during your shampoo session or after you shampoo. Just ensure to rinse thoroughly.
