5 Things Customers Want But Don’t Tell Hair Stylists!

Ever had your hair done and then the stylist asks you if you like it? Then you go home and ugly-cry because you hate it? And if anyone compliments you, you tell them ‘’Thanks. I hate it.’’  Because same. This is a follow-up post to 5 Things Hairstylists Want You To Know But Can’t Tell You. Here are 5 things customers want but can’t tell their hairstylists!

1.”Don’t Braid Too Tight, Sally’’

Some stylists braid like the fate of humanity rests on their ability to braid. Some braid so tight that you can’t make facial expressions. Like ‘’I can’t move my face,Sally.’’ Many customers are afraid of speaking up and end up with tiny white bumps and headaches.

2.” Don’t Double Book, Ann’’

When you get to the salon and find 3 more people waiting for the same stylist. You could have sworn you’ll be in and out of the salon in 1 hour. Then you find this. Might as well stay since you drove 15 Km to come for your appointment. Hair stylists sometimes book two or three people at the same time, not sure why. But many customers don’t reprimand their stylist. They persevere or they walk out the door never to be seen again. I am the latter.

3. “Please don’t cut 4 inches off my hair, Karen’’

Went for a trim? Well, too bad. When your hairstylist says ‘’I’m just gonna cut this 1 inch’’ then they end up doing a straight up hair cut and now you look like Sia the musician. Sometimes hairstylists get scissor-happy and they insist that they know what they’re doing. Sometimes customers get concerned but they don’t speak up.

4.” Please use more product in my hair, Dorothy’’

Some salons really like to keep the amount of product used to a minimum. They like to use very little product, trying to save costs. However, when you come with your own products, they use it like there’s no tomorrow. Where is the justice in that? Can I get an amen? No? Ok.

5. “I actually don’t want cornrows, Sadora’’

A lot of stylists try to force a style down your throat. They want you to go with cornrows when you know in your heart of hearts that your head shape doesn’t sit well with cornrows. Customers would like stylists to know that they don’t like being pressured into doing things they don’t want. This is almost equivalent to being added to a Whatsapp group without your consent. No Bueno.

As a customer, what is your experience with hairstylists and what would you like them to know?

Now let’s touch base upon their side of the story. Check out 5 Things Hairstylists Want You To Know But Can’t Tell You.
