What is fine hair you ask? Is it hair that is fine okay? Does it mean hair that is thin? Well, it’s actually both. Fine hair is hair that is somewhat thin but it is totally okay!
Fine hair has the following characteristics:
Your hair could be as healthy and as long as anything. But it lacks the volume that you see with your favourite hair blogger/vlogger. Somehow you usually follow tutorials to the letter but your hair still doesn’t look like theirs. Something is not adding up and you are frustrated. This means you have fine hair. It means that you just have fewer strands of hair on your head. No big deal. As long as you have healthy hair, that’s all that matters.
Hair strands come in different diameters. Those with thick hair usually have a thick diameter. If you have fine hair, the diameter of your hair is small. If you pull a hair strand and run it between your fingers and can’t feel much of anything, you have fine hair. If you can somewhat feel it or if you definitely feel it, you have thick hair.
Apart from fine hair being thin, it also tends to be highly elastic. If you can pull your strand and it is quite elastic and ready to snap, you have fine hair. You need to constantly re-enforce your hair using protein treatments to combat the high elasticity.
Fine hair could mean either that you have less hair on your head or thin strands. It could also be that you have both: Fewer strands that are thin. The only downside of fine hair is that you do not get to achieve the amount of volume you desire. Twist outs, braid outs and even afro puffs may not come out the way you’d hoped. But the advantage is that having less hair means less time detangling and an easier time styling.
So embrace your fine hair and keep it here to find out ways in which you can style fine hair.
